A Teddy Bears’ Picnic helped raise funds for a special Braintree baby with a rare chromosome disorder. The children’s day was organised at the New Deanery and St Mary’s Court residential care homes in Bocking to give residents’ grandchildren and families a fun day out with their loved ones.

Donations made during the afternoon’s free event were collected for the Unique Imelda appeal, to fund therapy for six-month-old Imelda Mower, who faced 27 trips to hospital in the first 13 weeks of her life.  Donate now

Imelda’s aunt, Diana Russell, who works in the admin team at Sonnet Care Homes, which runs both homes, said:

It’s lovely that everyone has got on board to support Imelda – not only the staff here and the people of Braintree, but from all over.

“The disorder is so rare that we don’t know what’s going to happen, Imelda really is unique. We are trying to get her as much specialist therapy as possible as this is helping her development.”

I was delighted to see so many families and residents having such a great time, the weather held out and everyone loved seeing the magical miniature ponies and Fudge the giant bear.”
