Two of the team dressed upAn ‘Armed Forces’ day held at our residential care home in Bocking near Braintree helped residents and their families reminisce while allowing friends and families to share a special day.

Residents enjoyed the secure 10 acre gardens which are now in full bloom, admiring a World War II tank, which had been brought along to add to the ambience. An air raid hut, complete with contents, a wartime 750cc BMW flathead motorbike, which would have been used to escort the tanks during the war, and staff in costume completed the theme.

Families enjoyed the open air luxury barbecue, entertained by singer Alison Austin, belting out popular wartime hits.

Resident Annette Morran, said: “I really enjoyed the day. We have some fabulous activities here at The New Deanery and our friends and relatives are always made to feel very welcome.”

The New Deanery Manager Jane Sadowski added: “We always have a full diary of activities, with singers, nature walks, bingo, art classes, florists and even vets bringing in pets for everyone to see. A resident enjoying the day with two others

“We’ve recently been to Duxford War Museum, Tiptree Jam Factory and Gosfield Lake – and we’re planning a Rock ‘n Roll and Classic Car BBQ on July 25, so there is plenty to keep everyone occupied.”

Activities at the New Deanery and neighbouring St Mary’s Court were praised in a recent independent survey commissioned by owners Sonnet Care Homes, with 100% of relatives and 96% of residents describing the activities as sufficient and varied.

In the survey 100% of the care home’s residents and relatives rated  the team as being caring and effective in meeting people’s needs, with 94% saying they would recommend The New Deanery to others, following a major investment programme.

Details of the survey results can be viewed here.
