St Mary's Court Care Home, Braintree, Essex
A Father’s Day football match and BBQ helped raise funds for a prostate cancer charity. The event was organised at the New Deanery and St Mary’s Court residential care homes in Bocking to give residents’ and their families an enjoyable afternoon in the sun, with live entertainment from singer Gary Oliver.
Sonnet Care Homes Activities Manager Jo Whitehouse said:
“It was a wonderful, but extremely hot, day but that didn’t stop anyone – we had so much interest we had to make three teams which included staff, relatives, children and residents.
“I would like to thank everyone who helped, took part or just came along to watch, for their continued support and for making our events so successful.”
The event raised £100 for Prostate Cancer UK, a charity close to the hearts of the care home staff as a colleague, and the husband of a staff member, have recently had the disease.
St Mary’s Court manager Terri Pike presented a trophy, donated by a resident’s family, to the winning team.
The care homes’ activities programme continues with the summer fete on 8 July and Proms in the garden on 23 July.
